A Tribute to Charlie Southworth a famous local fossil collector
Hello everyone The Arkona Lions are presenting a One of a Kind Event at the Arkona Lions Museum and Information Centre at Rock Glen Conservation Area in Arkona on July 28th/18 from 10 am until 3 pm it's called A Tribute to Charlie Southworth -- a Local Fossil Collector Please Share this post to help make the Event successful to make it possible to have a different event every year. This event is honoring Charlie Southworth for all his work in collecting fossils that are a one of a kind that were named after him, and for leading the Great Paleontologists of the day around Arkona to help them collect and study such a wide diversity of fossils found in the area. It's perfect timing for this event because its 50 years after his passing . Thank You The Arkona Lions

This is a trilobite named after Charlie Southworth it's called Phacops iowensis southworthi and it's just one of many fossils that are named in his Honor and it was found locally
The Event Honoring Charlie Southworth had a great turn out, the displays from various private fossil collections were incredible to see. The food that was cooked by the Arkona Lions and Arkona Lioness was fantastic, the guided fossil hikes had lots of people out wanting to find there own fossil, the Creative Road Show crafts were a lot of fun for the children that were there . We sold a lot of Raffle tickets and the winners of the fossils Love there new treasures. The gem mineral fossil clubs had sign ups for new members . There was a lot of people attending the fossil talks, and they now know how much work Charlie Southworth put into collecting fossils and that some were even named after him, and that he truly was the person that helped make Arkona a world famous hot spot for collecting fossils. The Arkona Lions would like to Thank everyone that was involved in making this event a success
